Put on your dancing shoes and layer that tan up. Your favourite TV programme hit the road for a tour like no other.
Strictly Come Dancing is LIVE and at an arena near you soon! Last week we headed along to the Metro Radio Arena guests of Norvell Tan (the dancer’s tan sponsors) to enjoy a night in the ballroom.
I have to hold my hands up, I’m not usually one for watching Strictly. However, I do love a night out watching a show. If you didn’t catch h up with my Vegas shows I highly recommend you check out The Tenors of Rock performance.
We arrived at the arena and grabbed a bottle of wine (which was ghastly!), before heading to our seats. Which were behind the sound booth and an absolutely perfect location! So thank you Norvell Tan!
The dance floor was in the centre of the arena with a huge disco ball hanging and golden palm trees around the edge of the dance floor.
With the show beginning with the boom of the theme tune and the spin of the glitterball we knew we were in for a great night.
With Ore Oduba the compare for the evening, he really made this role his own. Joining in with the introductory number before getting the competition underway. With the audience being the final judge for the evening, we were guided by Dame Darcy Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood in the scoring. Complete with fab-u-lous catchphrases from the show.
Each of the couples performed two numbers, first up Alexandra Burke and Gorka Marquez. With sparkle aplenty, there was not an outfit in sight that hadn’t been adorned with crystals and rhinestones. Kicking off the evening with a Jive before returning in the second half with a Vienesse Waltz.
The first dance of the evening scored a full house from the judges. They showed the packed out arena what was in store for the rest of the show.
The next act was a very humbled Susan Calaman and her dance partner Kevin Clifton. Their first dance saw Susan in a flowing lilac number as she Quick Stepped her way into the next round. Her second number of the evening was a little more true to personality. As she donned a Wonder Woman outfit and saved the day with a Samba! Entertaining the crowds with her humour, she also was extremely overwhelmed by the support she received.
‘Hunk’ Davood Ghadami and Nadia Bychkova were next up to the floor. They treated the audience to a seductive performance of the sexed-up Paso Doble.
A right Northern welcome echoed around the arena for Gemma Atkinson (who has just been linked to a relationship with Gorka Marquez today) and her partner Aljaz Skorjanec. They kicked off their evening with the American Smooth followed by the Paso Doble. Which scored her an impressive 35/40 in week four on the show.
If there’s ever somebody who has that can do attitude it’s Jonnie Peacock. One of my favourite all-time athletes (and role models). This Paralympian really emulates that anything is possible. Along with his dance partner Oti Mabuse, he came flying onto the dance floor as a cowboy in their Jive from week two. It was absolutely mesmerising watching how he took to the floor with his blade. Their second dance of the evening, their American Smooth which was their highest scoring dance of the show, exuded brilliance.
D-E-B-B-I-E McGee and Giovanni Pernice were the next act up. They were spectacular and Debbie’s fitness is unparalleled. The way Giovanni lifted her in their American Smooth was sensational. She really does prove that age is simply a number. Salsa’ing their way into the second round in a risky red number. Debbie really was sensational and put my fitness to shame!
Last but no means least was series winners, Joe McFadden and Katya Jones. For the last dance before the intermission, they hit us with their playful Charleston. Which scored them an impressive 36/40 in week seven. Before their final performance finished the show. Showcasing their impressive show winner, the Argentine Tango with that lift.
The audience cast their votes and all profits from the texts went to Comic Relief. The winners of the evening were announced and taking home the disco ball trophy in Newcastle was…..Susan and Kevin!
The show was great entertainment, all be it in some places a little slow. However, that’s personal preference as I love fast shows. I would recommend heading to an arena near you to see it if you can as the outfits are spectacular and the dance skills are impeccable.
