#1 Place in The Lake District: Keswick Summer Adventures

On Tuesday we decided to head into the heart of the Lake District and make an adventure of The Lingholm Estate. Which is located just outside of Keswick.

The four of us hopped into the Vauxhall Crossland X, and belted up. Connected our Spotify and turned up the sound system to the sounds of one of my favourite road trip playlists. ‘Songs to Sing in the Car‘.

After our short drive, we pulled up at The Lingholm Estate, which if you’ve never heard of before is the inspiration behind Beatrix Potter’s Mr McGregor’s Garden.

Don’t go into Mr McGregor’s garden!

Having been a lover of the story of Peter Rabbit from being a child, this garden was exactly like the book depicts. Even more so like the vivid pictures in my head that have been there since my childhood.

After heading past a pack of Alpacas, which you can take for a walk. Then past a life-size wood carving of Peter Rabbit, we clambered up the stairs towards The Lingholm Kitchen. Which serves up a real treat in home cooked hearty food.

Round the end of a cucumber frame, whom should he meet but Mr McGregor!

The kids each chose Mac ‘n’ Cheese (£9). I opted for the soup of the day which was Carrot & Lentil (£4) and my Mum had chosen the soup and sandwich deal (£8.50) which she had chosen the crayfish sandwich.

Admittedly we did wait a little while for our food, however, we were in no rush. We looked at the gorgeous views of the walled garden and decided after our lunch we were going to head on an adventure through the grounds.

When our food arrived it looked delicious. I was rather envious of the kids’ choice of Mac ‘n’ Cheese. Served in a potting shed style tin, similar to that of The Botanist, their Mac ‘n’ Cheese was loaded with pine nuts and vine tomatoes and topped with a crumb. It was served with an extremely fresh looking side salad with garnish. They both tucked in excitedly.

My soup arrived with a swirl of oil and some perfectly crunchy handmade croutons. Accompanied by some crusty bread. Similarly to my Mum’s lunch, which has the same sized soup alongside a packed crayfish sandwich on a seeded submarine roll.

We all commented on just how much we enjoyed the food, it was utterly delicious. We could see why it was so popular, the food served was clearly made with love. The presentation had also been meticulously planned during the menu creation as it was all fitting with the decor and theme of the Estate.

If you’re around Keswick and looking for a great lunch then I highly recommend The Lingholm Garden. They serve everything from soup and sandwiches to quiches and even burgers (which look amazing). They have a specials board which changes frequently too.

He slipped underneath the gate and was safe at last in the wood outside the garden.

After we had finished our lunch we headed through the gardens. Along past the chicken coop and followed the signs down to the lake.

After a couple of minutes, we arrived at the lake which was expansive. We strolled up the jetty, with a couple of rowing boats moored and a family getting themselves into their canoes. It was the perfect picture.

This cosmopolitan vibe made for a relaxing half an hour as we digested our lovely lunch, whilst dangling our feet over the side of the jetty. We watched steamboats, paddle boarders, canoeing and all the hive on the lake. Before we headed back to the Crossland X as we continued our adventure back home.
