5 Amazing Things To Do In Lanzarote In A Week

Lanzarote is one of the 7 main Canary Islands and benefits from all-year-round great weather. Making it an ideal destination for a bit of Winter sun too. Lanzarote is a great island to explore. We recently spent a long-weekend at Lanzarote Retreats Luxury Eco Retreat in the North of the Island and spent our time exploring to discover our ‘Top 5 things to do in Lanzarote

1. Catalanza Catamaran

Ever the fan of a boat we took the short drive from our base in Arrieta to Puerto Calero to hop onboard the Catalanza from the beautiful marina. The charter heads out to the beautiful beaches of Papayago. Enjoy unlimited drink onboard and a meal as you take in the breathtaking views.

Pack your swimwear and enjoy a fast-paced, wave-bouncing ride on the instructor driven jet ski. Or take advantage of the onboard snorkels and explore the sea life in the crystal blue seas.

Boat tours run both morning and afternoon with the added option of the ‘Platinum Cruise’ which is the voyage we went out on which is over 16s only.

2. Cueva de los Verdes (The Green Caves)

Named as such because of the family who owned the land to the entrance of the cave. One of the longest volcanic tunnels in the world, The Green Caves opened tot he public in 1964 and is one of Lanzarote’s most popular tourist attractions.

Not only is it an incredibly natural thing to see, but the history of the caves is also extremely interesting, with the locals using it as a refuge when pirates attacked the island. The acoustics inside the cave makes for an amazing music venue too, see where these private concerts take place. Ogle in the natural and weird optical illusions that will leave you feeling confused.

3. Ferry to La Graciosa

This came highly recommended by both Josh and Tila at Lanzarote Retreats. Grab the ferry to La Graciosa from the port at Orzola and head out to this small island.

5 Amazing Things To Do In Lanzarote In A Week 4

The ferry is absolutely horrendous, there’s no hiding that. Especially on a windy day and hey, this is Lanzarote so there’s plenty of that! If you get a little seasick this probably isn’t the best journey for you to make. It’s hair raising to say the least!

However, stepping off to La Graciosa is worth it, this beautiful island has gorgeous shores, some great cycle routes and beautiful blue and white buildings. A little haven away from the island life of Lanzarote. An absolute must-visit if you’re looking for Insta-worthy buildings.

4. Camel Riding

You can’t go to Egypt and not see the Pyramids, just like you can’t go to Lanzarote and not ride a camel. Head up the Timanfaya mountain on a short camel trip. As one of the most famous animals in Lanzarote you’ll see them referenced everywhere so riding one is a must.

The camels take 2 people either side of their hump so perfect for if you’re with children or a little nervous about riding a camel alone. In terms of the camels, they are looked after well (like the camels I rode in Doha) and worked in shifts so they don’t get too tired. So there’s no need to worry about riding them.

5. Relax by the Pool

Summer or Winter Lanzarote is known for its great weather and unlike the UK it’s usually warm all year round. Make the most of it by relaxing by the pool and topping up your tan. Having been to Lanzarote a couple of times initially staying at the Rui in Puerto del Carmen and then Lanzarote Retreats in Finca de Arrieta staying somewhere with a great pool is an absolute essential for cooling down.
