As an example, the big, oversized bags that are often in fashion can balance out a larger person but will drown a petite person.
This means that if you are smaller, but need the capacity of a big bag, it is better to go for something sleeker like a messenger bag style than an oversized handbag or tote style. If you are tall or plus-sized, smaller day bag sizes can look a bit ‘miniature’ on you, so it is better to go for mid-sized or larger for a nice look. This doesn’t apply to clutches and evening bags, however, which are designed to look small and delicate anyway.
Do try bags on in the mirror to see how they look on you for size. Especially if this is an investment piece. You don’t want to buy something that is going to look wrong and never be worn at all.

If you carry your bag everywhere on one shoulder, it can be bad for your neck and posture. Everybody knows this, and yet, have you ever tried switching shoulders? It feels really weird! If you are out and about a lot with your bag every day then, it is best to go for one that also has handles, so you only need to wear it on your shoulder when you don’t have your hands free.
