January is always a great time for new starts, to reign it back in from weeks of eating your body weight in cheese boards and tins of Roses and to set intentions for the year ahead including your diet and meal prep.
I’ve made a promise to myself to ensure that I’m in the best shape of my life mentally and physically when I turn 30 this November. That’s why I’ve committed to being active in the gym daily, drinking over 2l of water a day and really getting to grips with my diet.
In the first week of January, I took part in a 7 day Slimfast Kickstarter which helped shed 6lbs of Christmas weight gain before spending 5 days eating prepped meals from Balance.
Balance are a meal prep company founded by three friends who share the same ethos of creating wholesome balanced meals using the best quality products to give you more time to spend with those who matter and less time in the kitchen.

Meal Prep Choices
Offering a 2-day starter plan from £49 Balance also tailor their meal preps packages to your specific requirements. I opted for the 5 day Balance Plan at £99 (however wish I had gone for the Slim + Trim plan). The Balance Plan contains; Regular-sized, balanced components.
Consistent healthy meal choices to assist you in your goals and performance. This 5-day plan works out at £19.80 per day. For this, you get 2 meals a day and 1 healthy snack a day. Personally, I feel that this is on the higher end pricing structure for meal prep companies. Working out that for a month this plan would cost £396 and that’s not including breakfasts.
When you select the plan, you are able to choose a selection of different meals. For lunch, I chose Tofu Katsu, Steak + Wedges, Prawn + Mexican Rice, Halloumi + Quinoa and Chicken Thighs + Egg Fried Rice.
For dinner, I had selected Beef + Black Bean Stir Fry + Rice Noodles, Chicken Thighs + Med Veg, Halloumi + Root Veg, Cod Fishcakes + Mash and Chickpea + Spinach Curry. Finally, for snacks, I chose the Protein Ball and Sweet Potato Brownies.
The meals arrive in 2 separate batches for freshness and in perfect timing so you’re not left without. In terms of this service, I think this is a great idea to ensure that the food served is to the best quality.

Quick and Easy Meal Prep
The meals in the Balance Plan are good portion sizes and are all ready in under 5 minutes. They’re packed with superfoods such as kale and beetroot too to ensure that you’re getting good nutrients into your body.
My top three favourite meals were Halloumi + Root Veg, Beef + Black Bean Stir Fry + Rice Noodles and the Steak and Wedges. Unfortunately, the Chicken Thighs contained a herb I’m allergic to in the seasoning so after realising I was unable to eat these two meals.
The quality of the food was really great especially the beef and halloumi. The food was really fresh, however, I felt that the meals lacked a bit of added flavour and were on occasion a little bland.
With that said they were quick and convenient which is great if you’re short on time and aren’t too good at cooking (or you just don’t like to cook).
I think if I was to use the service again I’d try the weight loss plan, simply to see if I did drop any weight as my weight stayed the same in the 5 days despite getting my 10,000 steps a day and going to the gym daily. You can also check this article for weight loss rice alternatives.
You can check out Balance here now and see if it aligns with your lifestyle plan.

Have you ever tried a meal prep company before? If so I’d love to know your thoughts in the comment section below.
OK – I gotta say, weight loss or not having meals prepared for me is a dream I carry in my heart every day as I stand and cook for the family:) I love the idea of getting well-balanced meals because as busy women tend to do many times, I find myself grabbing something that is quick and easy to make.
I guess sometimes if you are cooking for the family all of the time it would be nice to get a break and have your meals ready for you, for me though I love to cook. Have you thought about Hello Fresh or Gousto where they’re an interactive cooking experience for the full family?
