Spending a lot of time travelling and staying in various hotel rooms I’ve become somewhat of a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to what makes a really relaxing space. Especially when settling down to sleep is concerned. So how do you create a luxury bedroom?
Bedrooms should be if anything, relaxing. They’re where you spend a large portion of your evening after a busy day. Being well-rested is extremely important and there are a few things you can add to your bedroom to ensure that you are giving some of the most luxurious hotels in the world a run for their money. And no, leaving chocolate on the pillow isn’t one of them…..although I mean I guess you could?
How To Create A Hotel Style Luxury Bedroom
Choosing the perfect luxury bedroom bed frame
In any bedroom, the bed is the most important aspect of the entire room. It’s arguably the focal point of the room too. The best hotels I’ve stayed in all have one thing in common. The mattress is super comfortable. It’s important to have an aesthetically pleasing bed frame and dress it well. I admit I do go overboard when dressing beds and enjoy countless scatter pillows. Depending upon your style will depend on which bed frame you choose. Arista Living specialises in creating the perfect bed for you in just 3 clicks.
Simply choose the headboard, the colour and the base style and your custom bed will be made and created in a matter of days. Bed frames start at just £269.99 although I do have a code which will save you a whopping 50% off absolutely ALL beds including our Kingsize, 4 drawers with winged headboard in grey which retails at £674.99 and with the code BLONDE50 comes in at £337.49. Design your own bed here now.
I lust over high headboards with wings in luxuriously rich fabrics that complement wall coverings. Try and opt for a bed without a footboard as this gives the illusion of a larger bed and more space around it.
Choosing the perfect mattress
Where comfort is concerned choosing a mattress to suit your body is highly important, for optimum sleep you should invest in a good quality mattress like this Birlea Sleepsoul Bliss Mattress (King £299.99). Which boasts a sumptuously soft pillow-top layer of plush fillings for extra comfort and cushioning. This medium firmness mattress not only has 800 edge-to-edge springs, but it also has an added layer of memory foam that responds to your body’s temperature and spreads your weight evenly, perfect for a luxury bedroom.
Dressing your bed
Like most hotels, I always love nice white bed linen when dressing my bed. The clean white sheets always look inviting and cosy. I’m a huge fan of the Dusk bedding with the piped fawn detail around the pillowcase edges and at the top of the duvet cover.
I always like a large box pillow to create a waterfall look from the back of the bed to the last scatter cushion. And the pillowcase always has to be Oxford pillowcases for an additional luxe touch. Mainly whites to draw attention away from the gradual descent from the headboard and bring focus to the colour pop feature cushion.
The decor
Ensuring that the decor in your room is calming and aesthetically pleasing will also help you create a luxury-style hotel bedroom. Often creating a feature wall is the best way to do this. Photowall makes choosing a feature wall simple with its range of wall murals.
You can even go as far as adding your very own image that is special to you to become the feature. Perhaps you’ve taken an amazing shot of scenery on holiday that you want to be reminded of or you’re looking for a floral design, Photowall can make your dream decor come true.
With designer wallpapers in all colours and patterns, there’s something for everybody. Working on muted grey tones to fit in with our theme and decor we opted for the Watercolour Paynes Grey. Which is a gradient look, we opted for a Premium finish which has an extra matte finish, and is anti-reflective and scrape-resistant. It also is suitable to wipe down with cleaning products.
Mood lighting
Creating the perfect ambience is essential when trying to wind down. Too bright and you’ll struggle to relax, too dark and it’ll look dingy and uninviting. Using lamps and clever lighting tricks you can help create hotel-worthy lighting that not only relaxes you but also highlights the noteworthy spaces in your bedroom.
Choosing a scent
Creating an ambience to rival that of a hotel room doesn’t stop at just the lighting, ambience appeals to all of your senses. We’ve discovered touch with the luxurious bed dressing and comfort of the actual bed, vision with the look of the bed and the lighting, and now smell. I love entering a hotel room and it smells almost spa-like. The best-smelling room I’ve ever been in was the Mondrian Hotel in Doha where Arabic perfumes danced around the room.
Candles are great, however, a diffuser can create a longer-lasting scent which you can leave on to propagate around your room. Scents such as Neroli and Eucalyptus give a spa-like aroma, scents such as Lavender give a relaxing aroma and scents such as Jasmine and Sandalwood are said to be aphrodisiacs.
