Everyone likes to get away once in a while. Holidays are one of life’s little rewards for working hard – a chance to chill and recharge the batteries. And when it comes to taking a break, you need to ask yourself some questions.
All the most basic questions there are – Where, When, How, What – are important here. We’ll assume we know Why. After all, why does anyone take a holiday? Because we like them and we deserve to spoil ourselves!
Ask Yourself The Big Questions Before Planning A Holiday
Where … Do You Want To Go?
This is in many ways the $64,000 question. We all have our favourite holiday destinations and these are always worth going back to. Our favourite beaches to sunbathe on, or resort to ski in. Or we can try somewhere we’ve never been before.
Many popular destinations are packed with tourists – which isn’t always bad but can ruin a quiet, “spoil-yourself” trip. A trip to somewhere like Copenhagen, Tallinn or – if you’re a travel hipster – Albania is worth a try. Travel to the capital Tirana, from which you can reach some gorgeous luxury destinations.
When … Is It Best To Travel?
Now!
If you can get the time away from work, there’s really no such thing as a bad time to take a holiday. Yes, you’ll get better deals at different times in different places.
If you can wait, you are likely to get good prices for deluxe breaks in European destinations just after Christmas, for example.
But really, it depends on where you are going and what you want from the holiday. If you want to hit the beach and work on your tan and it’s January, chances are Sweden is out. A trip to Australia may suit you better. It’s summer there, after all.
How … Are You Going To Get There?
How you travel will obviously depend on a few factors – who’s going, where are you going and for how long, to name but a few. Taking a train journey across Europe might sound gruelling, but not if you do it in style. You don’t have to book the Orient Express – in fact, you can’t anymore – but first class in sleeper cars is a wonderful way to travel.
If you want to push the boat out a little more, there’s a private jet charter. It’s not cheap, but costs the same for two people to go as for twelve. And there’s really no feeling like not having to check in and wait in departures before taking a flight.

What … Are You Going To Do While There?
It’s a holiday – you don’t have to do anything. If you just want to check in to the nearest hotel and enjoy a few days by the pool that’s fine. If you want to get some sight-seeing done, then all the better.
There are some truly gorgeous sights to see all around this world. Beside a volcano in Iceland or in a Peruvian mountain valley – the only limit is your imagination.
There is of course another question – who? Who’s going with you? Let’s face it, you won’t want to take the same trip with your significant other that you would with your Mum or your three closest friends. So having a few options to choose from is wise. Luxury means different things depending on who’s with you.
Whether you’re after adventure or relaxation, make sure you plan a trip that suits your needs and gives you the chance to recharge. Take the time to ask yourself the big questions before booking, and don’t forget that flexibility and spontaneity can add even more excitement to your journey. No matter where you go, how you get there, or what you do while you’re away, your holiday is an opportunity to create memories that will last a lifetime. So, get planning, pack your bags, and enjoy every moment!
