Penny slots (under $100pn)

If you’re looking to spend very little on your accommodation in Vegas here it is. Average prices under $100 per night.

Circus Circus

Location: South Strip
Address: 2880 South Las Vegas Boulevard
Average price per night  basic room, based on 2 sharing – $65
Daily resort fee tax – $36.28
Distance from ‘Center Strip’ (The Bellagio): 2.0m/3.2km
Their website: circuscircus.mgmresorts.com
Rewards Programmes/Reward Games: Circus Players Club / myVEGAS, Konami, Blackjack and POP! Slots
My personal hotel rating:

This Circus themed hotel is home to the largest permanent big top in the world. Featuring circus acts and carnival-style games daily at the Carnival Midway. The hotel, now an MGM Resorts property first opened its doors in 1968. And is now one of the longest-standing hotels on The Strip.

It’s a great place if you’re travelling to Las Vegas with kids as Circus Circus is a fun place for the entire family. All of the acts in Carnival Midway including world-class jugglers, acrobats and performers are absolutely free to watch too.

In addition to the 3,773 hotel rooms, Circus Circus offers to its guests it also boasts vacation stays at the Circus Circus Manor Motor Lodge and their RV Park.

Incorporating the Slots-of-Fun Casino as well as three swimming pools and a wedding chapel. It additionally is home to Splash Zone, Las Vegas’ newest water park which opened in 2017.

Food & location

There are a number of restaurants and buffets located in the hotel including; Blue Iguana Mexican, Express, Circus Buffet, Auntie Anne’s, Pizzeria, Starbucks, Krispy Kreme, The Steakhouse, Vince Neil’s Eat – Drink – Party and Westside Deli.

It is located at the South end of the strip, not too far from the Stratosphere. The Deuce Bus does stop outside Circus Circus both ways. If you’re looking to get to the centre of the Strip (we’ll say the centre is The Bellagio) you’re looking at a 2-mile walk.

If you’ve not visited Vegas before then it’s worth noting the Deuce bus is the best form of transport up and down the Strip and to get to Fremont Street. It runs 24 hours both ways and costs $6 for 2 hours or $8 for 24 hours. You can ride any RTC buses as much as you like. You can pay at the machines in the bus stops using the correct change.

Excalibur

Location:
Address: 3850 South Las Vegas Boulevard
Average price per night basic room, based on 2 sharing: $87

Distance from ‘Center Strip’ (The Bellagio): 1.1m/1.7km
Their website: excalibur.mgmresorts.com

The Excalibur Hotel and Casino is a medieval-themed resort located at the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. With its castle-like exterior and stunning medieval decor, it is the perfect place to stay for guests who want to experience the thrill of the Middle Ages.

The hotel offers 3,981 guest rooms, including a variety of luxurious suites and villas, each equipped with modern amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. The hotel also features a large casino, where guests can enjoy a wide range of table games and slot machines.

The hotel’s dining options are equally impressive, with several restaurants and bars serving a range of cuisines. Some of the most popular dining spots include the Camelot Steakhouse, the Roundtable Buffet, and the Dick’s Last Resort.

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option for your stay in Las Vegas, the Excalibur Hotel and Casino is definitely worth considering. With its unique theme, wide range of amenities, and prime location, it offers everything you need for an unforgettable stay in Sin City.

Vegas Hotels: The Best Hotel For My Budget In Las Vegas | Travel Tips | Elle Blonde Luxury Lifestyle Destination Blog

Sahara (was SLS and before that…Sahara)

Location:
Address: 2535 South Las Vegas Boulevard
Average price per night basic room, based on 2 sharing: $80
Daily resort fee tax:  $37.95
Distance from ‘Center Strip’ (The Bellagio): 2.5m/4.0km
Their website: saharalasvegas.com
Rewards Programmes/Reward Games: Club 52
My personal overall hotel rating: ⭐⭐

The Sahara hotel is an iconic hotel located on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip. Originally opened in 1952, it has undergone several renovations over the years and was recently renovated and rebranded in 2019. The hotel offers over 1,600 rooms and suites with modern amenities and a sleek, sophisticated design.

One of the standout features of the Sahara is its expansive pool area, which includes three different pools, two hot tubs, and a luxurious day club called the Alexandria Pool. The hotel also boasts a full-service spa, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and multiple dining options.

Guests can choose from a variety of restaurants, including Bazaar Meat by Jose Andres, which features a unique take on the traditional steakhouse experience, and Casbar Lounge, which offers an extensive cocktail menu and live entertainment. Additionally, there is a Starbucks and a food court with several fast-casual dining options.

The location of the Sahara hotel is convenient for those looking to explore the north end of the Strip, with easy access to popular attractions like the Stratosphere Tower and the Neon Museum. It is also just a short drive from downtown Las Vegas.

Overall, the Sahara hotel offers a sophisticated and stylish option for those looking to stay on the north end of the Strip, with plenty of amenities and dining options to enhance your Las Vegas experience.

Stratosphere (rebranded as The STRAT Hotel, Casino and SkyPod)

Location: South Strip
Address: 2000 South Las Vegas Boulevard
Average price per night basic room, based on 2 sharing: $76
Daily resort fee tax:  $32.99
Distance from ‘Center Strip’ (The Bellagio): 2.8m/4.5km
Their website: stratospherehotel.com
Rewards Programmes/Reward Games: True Rewards
My personal overall hotel rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Having stayed in the Stratosphere for New Year one year, it is actually a nice hotel. If you manage to bag yourself one of the newly modelled rooms. There are plenty of amenities including an amazing view of the Strip from the ‘Top of the World’ restaurant. We actually watched the midnight New Year fireworks from above the restaurant at the 107 Skylounge. It was admittedly, a really spectacular thing to see as you can see right down the entire Las Vegas Strip. In fact, the hotel’s signature attraction is the 1,149 ft (350.2 m) Stratosphere Tower. This is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States.

One of the more recent additions to the hotel roster. Opening in 1996 The Stratosphere is home to 2,427 rooms spread over 24 floors. Owned and operated by Golden Entertainment, they have a huge expansion plan for the hotel to span over 3 phases.

There are plenty of restaurants located within the Stratosphere from fine dining to fast food including already mentioned Top of the World. Fellini’s Ristorante, Roxy’s Diner (which I highly recommend for great sloppy diner burgers) and Lucky’s.

This is in addition to the heart racing, incredibly crazy thrill rides on top of the hotel (Big Shot, Insanity, X-Scream and SkyJump Las Vegas.). You’ll also find shows and tribute acts as well as a comedy club located within the hotel. There are pools and pool bars as well as shops in the tower.

Location is key

In my honest opinion, the location of the hotel is its main downfall. It’s located towards the Fremont end of the strip, a 2.8-mile walk from the centre of the Strip. You can, of course, hop on the Deuce bus. Which does stop directly outside coming back from centre strip and a little further down (by the IHOP) heading onto centre strip.

The area around the Stratosphere is fine by day. However, after dark, it becomes a little seedy so do be aware of this when booking. Especially for female travellers. I must make it clear, that it is not a dangerous area in which you should avoid. Just to be a little warier around this area as it’s not bustling with tourists like the centre of the Strip is.

Pocket change ($100-$150pn)

A step up from the ‘Penny Slots’ but not quite mid-range, these hotels are great if you’re on a budget but wanting to enjoy the convenience of Strip hotels. Average prices between $100-$150 per night.

The Horse Shoe (was Ballys)

Location:
Address: 3645 South Las Vegas Boulevard
Average price per night basic room, based on 2 sharing: $110
Daily resort fee tax:  $39.67
Distance from ‘Center Strip’ (The Bellagio): 0.5m/0.8km
Their website: caesars.com/ballys-las-vegas

My personal overall hotel rating: ⭐⭐

The Horseshoe Las Vegas (formerly Ballys) is a classic hotel located in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. The hotel was first opened in 1973 as the MGM Grand, and has undergone several renovations over the years, most recently in 2020.

The Horse Shoe Las Vegas offers a wide variety of accommodations, from standard rooms to suites and even villas. The rooms are tastefully decorated with a classic Vegas style, and come equipped with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay.

Guests can enjoy the hotel’s amenities, including a full-service spa, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and an outdoor pool. The hotel also features a variety of restaurants, ranging from casual to fine dining, including the famous Sterling Brunch.

Located in the center of the Strip, The Horse Shoe is within walking distance to many of Las Vegas’ most popular attractions, such as the Bellagio fountains and the High Roller Observation Wheel. It is also conveniently located near public transportation, including the Las Vegas Monorail and the Deuce bus.

Overall, The Horse Shoe Las Vegas offers a great location, comfortable accommodations, and a wide range of amenities and dining options, making it a great choice for travellers looking for a classic Vegas experience.

Flamingo

Location: Center Strip
Address: 3555 South Las Vegas Boulevard
Average price per night basic room, based on 2 sharing: $109
Daily resort fee tax:  $39.68
Distance from ‘Center Strip’ (The Bellagio): 0.5m/0.8km
Their website: flamingolasvegas.caesars.com
Rewards Programmes/Reward Games: Caesars Rewards
My personal overall hotel rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Flamingo, in my opinion, is one of the best ‘pocket change’ hotels to stay in. Having previously stayed here twice. Boasting a 72,300 square-foot casino along with 3,626 hotel rooms the vibe is Miami, Art Deco. Ironic that I love it here so much considering I hated actual Miami!

Vibrantly decorated pink, the hotel includes a garden courtyard which serves as a wildlife habitat for Chilean flamingos, Ringed Teal ducks and other birds. You’ll also find fish and turtles. The hotel was the third resort to open on the Strip (by mobster Bugsy Seigel in 1946) and remains the oldest resort on the Strip still in operation today. You’ll find a The Flamingo & Caesars Palace monorail station at the rear of the hotel.

Donny & Marie have had an 11-year residency here and their show was fantastic! This year sees them retire. However, Paula Abdul’s residency is also located here.

Flamingo Las Vegas | 7 Night Itinerary for Las Vegas | If you're looking to plan things to do in Vegas here's what we got up to on our 6th visit | Travel Tips | Elle Blonde Luxury Lifestyle Destination Blog

Extensive dining

The Flamingo offers extensive dining options including the local’s favourite, Paradise Garden Buffet which we enjoyed an incredible breakfast one morning. There’s Club Cappuccino serves up pastries, yoghurts and coffee on the go. With a food court boasting Jonny Rockets, Pan Asian Express, LA Subs and Bonanno’s you can grab a quick bite from an array of food vendors. My favourite, is 5am pizza slices from Cafe Express. A must when passing through the lobby to the Linq! Other dining options include the Beach Club Bar & Grill, Margaritaville and Carlos ‘n Charlie’s Restaurant. Flamingo also announced a ‘new concept’ in dining coming 2020.

Some of the rooms at the Flamingo have recently been remodelled and wherever possible select a ‘Fab’ room. The $20 upgrade trick hasn’t worked for our last two stays here although it may have a better success rate for you? Either the front Strip View of the hotel is a great room location or my personal favourite is to the back of the hotel with views over the High Roller and into the valleys. The sunset is magnificent.

Harrah’s

Location: Center Strip
Address: 3475 South Las Vegas Boulevard
Average price per night basic room, based on 2 sharing: $123
Daily resort fee tax:  $39.68
Distance from ‘Center Strip’ (The Bellagio): 0.7m/1.1km
Their website: harrahslasvegas.ceasars.com
Rewards Programmes/Reward Games: Caesars Rewards
My personal overall hotel rating:: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Home to my favourite bar in the whole of Vegas (and arguably the world) Carnival Court is a must-visit for any Vegas visitor seasoned or first-timer. The bar staff are hilariously entertaining. And with live music all day and evening this outdoor bar is one of the coolest around.

Harrah’s hotel (regardless if you pronounce it Hourrahs or Hair-ahz) is a Caesars Entertainment property. Located pretty centrally on the Strip looking across to Caesars Palace. The 2,667 room hotel was first opened in 1973 with a Carnival and Mardi Gras theme.

With over 1,200 slot machines there’s no shortage of gambling at Harrah’s. If you work up an appetite playing the slots you can find an array of restaurants and food places inside the hotel. These include; Ben & Jerry’s, Flavors The Buffet, Fulton Street Food Hall, Oyster Bay, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Starbucks and Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill.

Being centre Strip is an added bonus for Harrah’s which has just seen the remodelling of its rooms. A great location, the world’s greatest bar (in my opinion) and a constant busy bustling vibe make for a great location stay without breaking the bank.

Luxor

Location:
Address: 3900 South Las Vegas Boulevard
