60+ Date Night Ideas in Newcastle (Romantic, Fun + Budget Picks)
Mini Golf and Bowling Date Nights
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from dating in Newcastle, it’s that the best nights out are the ones that don’t take themselves too seriously. And mini golf is a perfect example, fun, flirty, and just competitive enough to spark some cheeky banter.
Newcastle has no shortage of mini golf courses and bowling alleys, but not all are created equal. Some offer full vibes with cocktails, neon lights, and curated chaos, while others are better left in the group chat. Whether you’re after a first date icebreaker or a double date with flair, these are the venues worth knowing.
Junkyard Golf Club – Cocktails, chaos, and competitive flirting, all under one roof
For dates that don’t take themselves too seriously, Junkyard Golf Club is pure energy. With three outrageous 9 hole courses, each crammed with neon lights, bizarre props (think bathtubs, car parts, and circus vibes), and unexpected obstacles, it’s the kind of place where you’ll spend half the time laughing and the other half trying to out putt your date.
It’s strictly over 18s, which means the cocktail game is strong, expect candy floss garnishes, loaded drinks served in disco cups, and a playlist that turns the whole place into a vibe. It’s bold, it’s playful, and it’s a great way to shake up a midweek date or kick off a Saturday night.
The Gate, Newgate Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 5TG
Prices from £8.50pp – junkyardgolfclub.co.uk
Golf Fang – Neon chaos and cocktails in Newcastle’s coolest golf venue
Tucked away in the creative hub of Hoult’s Yard, Golf Fang is hands down one of the most entertaining (and chaotic in the best way) date night spots in the city. This over 18s only venue serves up 18 wild, art inspired holes, each one designed with a mix of tongue in cheek humour, neon chaos, and just the right amount of skill meets luck.
It’s not just golf, it’s an experience. Expect loud music, bold interiors, street food, and a fully stocked bar to keep the vibe going long after the last putt drops. If you’re looking to break the ice or just laugh your way through a date, this is the one locals rave about, and with good reason.
Location: The Clay Shed Hoult’s Yard, Walker Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE6 2HL
Prices are £10pp per round (18 holes) and you can book Golf Fang here.
Mr Mulligan’s Space Golf – Retro fun in the heart of the city centre
One of the first mini-golf courses we visited in the early days of dating was Mr Mulligan’s Space Golf which as you guessed has a space theme. Located next to The Gate, Newcastle this central location is ideal for heading to before grabbing food or drinks. There’s something charmingly nostalgic about Mr Mulligan’s Space Golf, one of the first mini golf spots I ever visited in Newcastle back in the early days of dating. With its quirky intergalactic theme, UV lighting, and playful layout, it still holds its own as a fun, fuss free date night choice.
Located just next to The Gate, it’s perfectly placed for a pre-dinner laugh or post drinks detour. Expect themed holes with a mix of fluke and finesse, and an atmosphere that doesn’t take itself too seriously, ideal if you’re after something lighthearted, easygoing, and central. great atmosphere and again some skill and luck shot holes it’s great entertainment.
Location: 117 Newgate St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 5RZ
Prices are £9.50pp for 18 holes (£6.75 for 9 holes and £12.00 for 27 holes), you can book Mr Mulligan’s Space Golf here.
Lost World Adventure Golf – Dinosaurs, sea air, and lighthearted day date energy
If you’re planning a laid back day date by the coast, Lost World Adventure Golf on the Tynemouth seafront is the perfect mix of kitsch fun and salty sea air. This outdoor 18 hole course is set in lush, leafy surroundings, with life sized dinosaurs, water features, and a few sneaky surprises (yes, some of them spray you mid putt).
It’s a little chaotic, very charming, and the kind of place where you’ll laugh more than you’ll score. Pair it with fish and chips or a beach walk for a feel good, low pressure date that still feels like a full day out.
Location: Grand Parade, Tynemouth, North Shields NE30
Prices are £4.50pp for 18 holes and there’s no booking required, you can, however, find out more about Lost World Adventure Golf here.
Lane7 – Bowling, booze & mini golf, Newcastle’s grown up playground
Lane7 is where aesthetics meet attitude. Tucked just off St James’ Boulevard, this adults-first venue (U18s out by 7pm) serves up urban cool with a competitive twist, think boutique bowling, American pool, karaoke, ping pong, beer pong, and yes, even an 18 hole mini golf course with its own bar.
The vibe here is effortlessly fun, dark wood, industrial finishes, turf underfoot, and great music pulsing in the background. Whether you’re bowling over cocktails or getting a little flirty over golf, it’s a brilliant first date icebreaker or a solid go to if you’re a couple who loves a little competition with their cocktails.
Location: 80-90 St James’ Blvd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 4BN
Prices are £5pp for 18 holes and booking can be made for Lane7 Newcastle here.
Guttergolf at Gutterball Alley – A bold night out, but the golf isn’t the main event
Located in Royal Quays, Gutterball Alley is Lane7’s more laid back little sibling, offering bowling, arcade games, ping pong, a bar, diner style bites, and a handful of novelty experiences. Among them? A 9 hole mini golf course splattered in neon paint and filled with the kind of random décor that makes for fun photos but a quick playthrough.
This one’s more about the night out than the golf itself. If you’re already here for the food, bowling, or arcade chaos, the course makes for a cheeky bonus round. But if mini golf is the main event, you’ll find better value elsewhere.
Location: Rotary Way, North Shields NE29 6DA
Prices are £6pp for 9 holes and booking can be made for Guttergolf at Gutterball Alley here.
