Ghetto Golf
Located at Hoult’s Yard this over 18s only 18 hole mini golf course is our favourite in Newcastle. With an onsite bar and place to eat it really is the whole package. The holes are all themed and are a mixture of skill and luck shots which make for a really enjoyable experience. Booking for Ghetto Golf is essential.

Mr Mulligan’s Space Golf
One of the first mini-golf courses we visited in the early days of dating was Mr Mulligan’s Space Golf which as you guessed has a space theme. Located next to The Gate, Newcastle this central location is ideal for heading to before grabbing food or drinks. With a great atmosphere and again some skill and luck shot holes it’s great entertainment.

Lost World Adventure Golf
Looking for a day date idea and fancy outdoor mini-golf then you’ll want to head to Lost World Adventure on Tynemouth Sea Front for a putt with the dinosaurs. Open in good weather this 18 hole golf course has Dinosaurs spraying you as you putt, make your way through the leafy course avoiding the ponds as you complete all 18 holes, which again are a mixture between skill and luck shots.

Angry Birds Golf
Join the Angry Birds at the Metro Centre for 2 exciting 18 hole courses. Play Bird Island or Pigtropolis and feel like you’re in the game. With carefully thought out holes and lots of obstacles these challenging courses are great for any date. There are plenty of photo opportunities too so you can make your date Instagram official.

Lane7
Primarily designed as an adults-only bowling alley Lane7 (U18s must leave by 7pm) Lane 7 offer a dining experience alongside ping pong, beer pong, karaoke, American pool and an 18 hole mini-golf course. This wood and turf rustic looking course with its own bar is in an ideal location for heading for drinks afterwards if you don’t fancy eating and bowling. The course is enjoyable and requires a bit of skill so is a great way to break the ice if it’s a first date or get competitive if you’re seriously dating.

Guttergolf at Gutterball Alley
Located at the Royal Quays in the former Starbowl is Lane 7 owned Gutterball. Primarily a bowling alley the facility also offers a bar and restaurant as well as an arcade, ping pong and bullpen (baseball practice) as well as a 9 hole mini-golf course. Splattered in neon paint with random objects all around this golf course has been an afterthought (much like Lane 7s) and is very basic. Probably the least value for money as our game lasted less than 20 minutes.

Theatres & Comedy

The Stand Comedy Club
Located in the heart of the city, The Stand Comedy Club offers some of the best nights in the city. There’s nothing better than laughing until your belly aches on a date and The Stand does just that. Tyne Theatre Opera House

Customs House South Shields
Not only does the Customs House South Shields have its own restaurant, but they also have a cinema which shows a small selection of current movies as well as showcasing some fine talent on their stage. Although not located in the city centre, South Shields is a 15-minute metro ride from Central Station and is a great place for grabbing food (especially Ocean Road) and heading to the theatre. As a teenager, I spent every Friday night and Sunday afternoon at Whitley Bay Ice Rink and as far as dates go, it’s a great place for a good time. Regardless if you’re like Bambi on ice or more like Torville and Dean it’s somewhere you can go time and time again and have a different experience. Not too fussed to skate? Why not head to the rink to watch the mighty Whitley Warriors Ice Hockey.

If you’re looking for a little more culture then the North East is home to plenty of museums to visit. From historic to science we have it all, here’s a selection of some of our favourites. Although these are not all date night ideas in Newcastle, some of them are date day ideas (and a little out of the city).
Beamish
The open-air museum, located in Durham is home the lives of those in the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s. With trams, mines and even the favourite, the sweet shop to visit it’s a great place to head to experience life in the past. The Great North Museum: Hancock
Step inside the museum of natural history and ancient civilisations. With a living plant gallery spanning the first floor, it tells the story of wildlife and habitats. Alongside this is the Hadrian’s Wall gallery showcasing a detailed history of the World Heritage Site.
In to dinosaurs? Head to Fossil Stories which uses fossils to show major landscape changes through the ages and see the T.Rex replica skeleton. An impressive and magnificent building located in Barnard Castle, Durham houses some of the most beautiful art collections the world has seen. Grey’s Monument
Yes, that’s right, the statue at Monument Metro Station of Earl Grey (former Prime Minister who had a tea blend named after him) is a perfect day date idea. Book a tour and climb the 164 steps inside to the top where you can marvel at Newcastle’s impressive Georgian Architecture, it could also be the perfect place to propose in Newcastle…

Victoria Tunnel
The Victoria Tunnel is a subterranean wagonway that runs under the city from the Town Moor down to the River Tyne. It was built between 1839 and 1842 to transport coal from Leazes Main Colliery in Spital Tongues to riverside staithes ready for loading onto boats and then converted into an air-raid shelter in WWII. In this interactive tour, you can discover the stories of yesteryear and see replica beds that those in WWII would have slept in. Some paranormal groups have even reported ghosts in the tunnel. You will also walk under some of Newcastle’s most famous landmarks including Hadrian’s Wall. This is probably one of the most underrated date night ideas in Newcastle on the list, seriously cool!

Keilder Observatory
One of the most romantic date ideas in the entire list is a trip to Kielder Observatory. Hailed as one of the most remarkable places to visit in the whole of the UK this public astronomical observatory is second to none. Angel of the North
Installed in 1998 and 54m wide and 20m high, (taller than four double-decker buses and with a wingspan as big as a jumbo jet!) the Angel of the North is believed to be the largest angel sculpture in the world. Pioneered by artist Anthony Gormley, the Angel of the North is one of the heritage spots welcoming visitors to Newcastle and Gatehead and somewhere to certainly head to for a day date.

Visit the Beaches
The North East has some absolutely incredible (and award-winning) beaches. There’s nothing we love more than to take a disposable bbq and sit and watch the sunset. If you’re visiting Tynemouth I highly recommend a day date to Riley’s Fish Shack. Blyth, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth Longsands are all amazing beaches. Other beaches worth visiting are Beadnell Bay, Warkworth, Bamburgh Roker and Seaburn, Marsden Bay and Saltburn-by-the-Sea.

Browns Rowing Boats

Home of basketball, the Eagles Community Area is the stadium of the Newcastle Eagles. Again with a great atmosphere, you can’t help but cheer on the Eagles to win!

Emirates Riverside
I don’t like cricket…I love it. If you’re looking for a day in the sunshine with lots of singing and a wild atmosphere then why not spend your date day at Durham’s Cricket Ground watching the cricket?

Whitley Bay Ice Rink
Not content with skating yourself, why not spend your date at Whitley Bay Ice Rink watching the might Whitley Warriors take on their opponents on the ice in this fast-paced game. Watch as the puck flies across the ice and (often) fights breaking out between players.

Newcastle Greyhound Stadium
Head trackside for a flutter on the dogs at Newcastle Greyhound Stadium with track racing weekly. Make an evening of it with a trip to the restaurant located inside the stadium whilst watching the dogs.

Sunderland Greyhound Stadium
With 3 spacious bars, a restaurant and a gallery you can live it up for a flutter on the dogs at Sunderland Greyhound Stadium. With meetings on weekly and always a vibrant atmosphere (personally prefer Sunderland dogs over Newcastle) it really is a great date night out.

Newcastle Racecourse
Enjoy both flats and jumps at Newcastle Racecourse located in Gosforth. With frequent meetings in both flat and jump season, there’s always a great show of horses. Head to hospitality for fine dining and excellent views or get yourself your bet on and stand in the crowds cheering your horse and jockey home. With a great view of the course and winners enclosure, this is one of my favourite racecourses in the North East (and one of the best date night ideas in Newcastle).

The pottery scene from Ghost, one of the most romantic scenes of all time, got us thinking that date night ideas in Newcastle could be really successful if you head to a class.
Cocktail Masterclass
There are plenty of bars in Newcastle that offer a cocktail masterclass lesson most noteworthy Banyan, Hotel du Vin, Jalou and Revolution. Practice throwing a couple of cocktails before sitting back and enjoying a couple of drinks. This is a pretty coll date idea as the camaraderie of the making of your cocktail is pretty funny and if it’s the first date will seriously break the ice.

We don’t mean ballet, modern or tap (unless that’s your thing). Why not grab your partner and head to Revolution de Cuba’s downstairs room for a salsa lesson, to Dance City, for beginners Flamenco or Ballroom and Latin to get up close and personal on your date.
