To make a house a clean home we’ve come up with our top 5 Bathroom Cleaning Hacks that you can use to put the sparkle back into your Pinterest worthy bathroom. Most of them use food items too, which is more environmentally friendly than harsh chemicals.

1) Restore your grout to White

Grout over time begins to discolour. It looks amazing when it’s clean, but not so great when it’s looking grim. Restoring it is easy. Simply combine baking soda and beach to the tile spacing to restore.

Apply a paste made from ¾ of a cup of baking soda and ¼ of a cup of bleach to the grout. Leave it to sit for 30 minutes and then remove with a scrubbing brush or cloth to reveal your revitalised grout.

2)  Unclog drains with Alka-Seltzer tablets

When your drain gets clogged, we recommend dropping a couple of Alka-Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by one cup of distilled vinegar. It’s not as harsh as using harmful chemicals, can save you money and is better for the environment. Leave these two for 10 minutes to mix and then wash it all down with boiling water. The blockage should instantly disappear!

3) Sweep your bathtub

If you struggle to bend or find a sponge doesn’t give you the shine you’re after when cleaning your bathtub then why not try covering you bath in soap then sweep and scrub with a clean broom. Creating a thick lather, almost like the car wash principle. Once scrubbed rinse until all of the suds have gone.

The brush is not only easier to use but requires less effort too! One of the new trends that are being followed are of keeping a hot tub in your bathroom for easy access, the same method can be used for cleaning a hot tub too which may sound like a lot of work but picking a place for a hot tub is a tricky matter but once placed, it can change the look and make your bathroom look trendier.

4) Use black tea to restore your mirror’s shine

My Nana always used to swear by vinegar for cleaning mirrors, however, we’ve found something that we think tops that! If you want your bathroom mirror to be spotless then use black tea! Brew a couple of bags in a cup of boiling water, let it cool and then use the solution to clean your mirror. Black tea contains tannic acid, which will dissolve any dirt. Leaving you with a spotless mirror.

5) Mouthwash cleans your toilet bowl

Cleaning your mouth isn’t the only use for mouthwash. Experts state that using the liquid as a toilet bowl cleaner can restore your toilet to its former porcelain white colour. Simply pour ¼ of a cup into the toilet, let it sit for 45 minutes and then scrub. We also recommend on an evening before bed dropping a cap of Zoflora into the bowl also keeps your toilet fresher.

Do make sure that you regularly clean your toilet for a number of reasons; so it doesn’t smell. If it begins to smell pour a little bicarbonate soda into your bowl and flush. This should help loosen up any blockages you may have in your immediate pipes. You don’t want your toilet to discolour with wear and tear. If you have an older toilet then it’s important to regularly scrub so the porcelain doesn’t discolour and leave a tide mark.
