Friendship is one of the most important things in our lives and Huggle has asked me to make a list/write about what I think makes a good friend. When I was asked to write about what makes a good friend, I sat and laughed to myself. I was thinking of all the stories that haven’t just made my best friend a good friend, but an absolutely great friend.
In fact an irreplaceable friend. I then realised that the majority of them will be taken to the grave as they’re that wild and crazy so instead here’s what makes a great great friend.

Friendship is one of the things we learn from an early age. An age of innocence where we do not define our friendships based on colour, religion or beliefs instead we define our friendships on who shares the toys and gives the best hugs.
Perhaps this innocence is something that we should all try and bottle for as long as possible. To make the world a happier place, a more giving and certainly more friendly. Where people don’t judge you for anything but your personality.
Huggle and Friendship
I asked my 13-year-old cousin about her friendships through her life and what makes a good friend, admittedly she stated her first friendship was, me.
Cousins are often the first friends you have as children, over the years we’ve become closer and she’s hilarious. She believes a good friend is: kind, makes happy memories, easy to get along with, funny.
Olivia also thinks some other attributes of a good friend are that they are trustworthy, loyal, understanding, always there for you.
A great friend has shared interests with you and she also told me that she feels as she’s got older and entered her high school career she has found out who her real friends are and who was just there when it suited them.
The qualities of a best friend
It makes me really proud to hear her listing all these lovely attributes of friendship and I truly know that she is an extremely loyal and caring friend to those around her as I’ve seen it first hand.
When I think about my best friend and what makes her a great friend one thing sticks out, her love for me. She often sends me a text to remind me that she’s so lucky to have a best friend like me.
Although admittedly I’m sarcastic, have her life, wind her up and tell her the most ridiculous things as she’s gullible, however she has me crying with laughter every time I see her or speak to her. It is in fact me who’s the luckier friend here.
The very first time I met Katie was in an English class in college and working in pairs you had to introduce the other. I knew from the very moment I spoke to her that we were going to be best friends and she shared the same kind of wicked humour as I did so wickedly I told her all these crazy, made up hobbies that I pretended I did including clay pigeon shooting to tell the whole class.
Not for one second was I worried about me looking like an idiot with these crazy hobbies I just knew that she was as crazy as me for believing me.
Fast forward 10 years, hundreds of memories, the honour of being her Chief Bridesmaid, that’s when you know you’ve found a friend for life.
I’d like to think I’m a good friend with moments like these; the time(s) when you’ve held her hair back as she’s violently sick after drinking too much tequila.
When you’ve sat and held her pot of urine in the hospital and not flinched. The time that you were that much a bad influence on each other during college you were no longer allowed in the same lessons.
Whatever is needed, whenever, I know that we have each other’s back. We know each other far too well that we can tell what the other is thinking, we can almost read each other’s mind.
Regardless of the situation we make a joke out of it and the best thing about a great friend is the fact they allow you to be a great friend in return.
