3 Reasons To Visit The Buddha Lounge in Tynemouth for Sunday Dinner

I thought I’d bring you a review of a fantastic restaurant I visited the other week. The Buddha Lounge.

Situated in the boutique village of Tynemouth, The Buddha Lounge is a relatively new restaurant and cocktail bar hidden within part of an old church, while formally Lorelei which was once owned by well-known Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor.

The Buddha Lounge is an Asian fusion restaurant with a fantastic menu. It was Sunday afternoon and we had taken a trip along to Tynemouth on the metro (it’s always messy when you head there on the metro). After a quick journey since it was only three stops, we hopped off. Then sauntered along the front street and into The Buddha Lounge. Which is mort noteworthy adorned in gold exterior and some gorgeous topiary.

Asian dining in style

Upon entry into the modern refurbished swanky looking lounge, we were seated in a booth. Overlooking the gorgeous twinkling tree that stands tall in the middle of the bar area.

We quickly picked up the cocktail menu and chose some delicious looking drinks. As they arrived we were perusing the menu.

Between 12:00-16:00 they offer a two course special for just £10 and 3 courses for £12. Yet, this was unbeknown to us but made our meal out much more enjoyable!

As we perused the menu we were pleasantly surprised by how many gluten-free options there were and how clearly they were marked. Which is especially relevant for those of us who can’t eat gluten. I opted for the salmon sushami. Followed by the prawn pad Thai while my dining partner opted for squid followed by crispy beef and sticky rice.

History of the building

As we waited for our order my dining partner began to tell me the history of the building and stories from yesteryear. Within 5 minutes our starters had arrived.

My tuna sushami was absolutely divine. It was so fresh and the wasabi was hot just how I like it. The squid looked lovely and white, soft and delicate.

Consequently, I didn’t want my starter to end as it was absolutely delicious. It did, however, and then I was so looking forward to my Pad Thai. It’s a dish I often make at home, while substituting the noodles for Courgetti to save on calories.

Once the lovely lady who was our server cleared our plates from our starter away within 10 minutes she had returned with our mains and another round of rather delicious cocktails.

As the steam billowed off my Prawn Pad Thai it looked proper scrumptious as I poured on the crushed cashews. There’s something about my relationship with food, it has to be scalding hot or cold. There’s no in between. I absolutely hate medium or lukewarm food.

Gluten-free Dining At Buddha Lounge

As I twisted my gluten-free rice noodles around my fork and the heat steamed off I just knew I’d enjoy it.

It was flavoursome with the fresh chillis and mountains of fresh coriander. The prawns were succulent and juicy and the cashews added to the flavour of the sauce.

There was a lot of eating in the dish but it was hands down the best Pad Thai I’ve ever had! I strongly recommend trying it if you get a chance to visit.

My dining partner’s crispy beef came with sticky rice. Again the beef looked tender and tasty and the dish received a round of applause and a 5-star rating from them and a very promising “the next time we come we’ll try…” Which is a testament in itself.

We didn’t opt for pudding as we were both absolutely full to the brim after our two courses. Although a selection passed us by and they looked just as good as the rest of the food.

The selection for those who are vegetarian and/or gluten intolerant is absolutely fantastic. There’s plenty to choose from. The atmosphere and decor of The Buddha Lounge is sensational. It’s in the same league as Koi and Taio in Las Vegas (read my Las Vegas musts here) and the whole experience was phenomenal. It was extremely great value for money and we can’t wait to return.
