Sometimes life is hectic and non-stop, so it’s nice to enjoy some serious relaxation. What’s a better way than to spend the evening at The Town House Durham?
Set back just meters from the river and a only a couple of hundred yards from the cobbled pathways which are home to an eclectic mix of multinationals and independent shops. The Town House has a modest exterior, however. The second you step inside you’re greeted by opulent golds and purples, damask, tassels and busts.
Why You Need To Stay At The Town House Durham
Cocktail bars
With a beautiful restaurant serving up a delicious feast upon an evening and a cocktail bar. Which is perfect for pre-theatre drinks or a nightcap after a day of exploring. This 18th century Town House is home to 7 luxury rooms situated inside the Town House. And the crown in their jewel, the three rooms in the garden area, each with their own hot tub.
All of the rooms are individually decorated. From the black velvet to striking red flock each room has been lovingly created with the occupants in mind as well as the strong luxurious Durham heritage it emulates.
Luckily enough we stayed in Eden Lodge for the evening. Arriving at the Town House Durham we greeted with a warm welcome and then shown our rooms. With a full rundown of the 67″ flat screen TV – I mean I have NEVER even seen a TV this size! Alongside this, there were complimentary wine and water served in a gorgeous kitsch wicker picnic basket. Teas and coffees (including herbal teas – they must have heard about our green tea addiction!)
Hot tubs in the North East
Then of course there was the most all important item of them all. The hot tub.
The rooms followed suit of the opulent reception area and restaurant and were decorated beautifully. With golds and champagne colours it is easy to see why this is one of the favourite places to stay in Durham.
Every aspect of The Town House Durham has been taken into consideration. And the additional extras such as the gowns and slippers, the wine in the picnic basket and the selection of local luxury magazines really make this a perfect getaway. With a Rolls Royce the focal point of the garden the little quirks really give it that long-lasting impression. That makes you want to tell everybody you meet about it.
Relaxing at The Town House Durham
After dinner and cocktails, it was straight to enjoy a glass of wine or two in the hot tub. After all, it’s all about the relaxation! Meanwhile, feeling extremely chilled we all hopped in the spacious tub which was already heated and ready to go with the press of a button. All that was missing was some outdoor speakers and it just confirmed to me. All I need in life is my very own hot tub.
What’s great about the three lodges is that the gardens are all linked so it’s great for if you want an escape with friends which is centrally located to great shops, bars and restaurants. An ideal luxury stay for small hen parties or celebrating a special occasion with friends and family, it would also be the perfect place for a couples retreat.
With rooms from £85 a night including breakfast it really is one of the best places to stay in Durham. You can check out The Town House here.
