If you’re like me, a northern girl, with a peaceful soul and only a London Tourist, then you may well be totally overwhelmed by the bright lights and bustle that London has to offer and that’s why I’d always only ever be a London Tourist!
A powerhouse, a nucleus for business, London is a hub for the corporate winners in their big fancy Rolls Royces or the lawyers rolling out of the office at 7pm after a 5am start.
It’s funny, the wake up, work, sleep, wake up, work, sleep cycle that these people in the city get stuck in. With so much pressure from their jobs and very little time to let off steam the thought of the bustle of the London rat race puts me off.
London from the postcards on the other hand, has a more fluffier, rainbow and glittery side, the tourist side. An adventure playground of the weird and fabulous.
Having had one of my first memorable experiences in London being a London tourist is my trip to The Dome in 2000 at the sweet age of just 10, I remember the day being packed full of laughs and memories, another fond memory of the city.
The time that David Blane sat in a box by the Thames for that ridiculously long period of time, my Mum and I booked a train to go and see him for the weekend. Talk about spontaneity!
The best way to spend 24 hours in London as a London Tourist!
London Tourist
As the years have gone by I’ve been back and forward to London for various occasions. The hustle and fight for space on the tube never gets any easier or more bearable and the underground map just keeps getting larger and larger.
With that said I enjoy the fast pace, bright lights and opportunities that the city has to offer, temporarily, it’s novel. I also enjoy the journey back to the North, the more relaxed pace, you know, with less pressure.
There’s lot to see and do in London and there’s always so much going on everywhere you look but even the shops and the sights are breathtaking. Buckingham Palace being one of my most magical sights, you see I’m quite the royalist you know?
The stunning views from the top of the London Eye, a trip I remember vividly from my childhood when it first opened with my aunt and uncle.
The fabulous shows the West End has to offer, each and every single one spectacular in its own right. There’s something for everybody to enjoy.
As I sit here reflecting about my most recent trip when I headed to the Magnum Pleasure Store I can’t help but think London must be a lonely place if you simply live for your 48 hours off from the world despite having the capital as your Oyster.
But for it to be explored properly and that’s here’s how I spent 24 hours in London.
First Stop – Breakfast
Kickstart your day with a delicious breakfast at The Breakfast Club in Soho. This iconic spot serves up classic breakfast dishes like pancakes, eggs Benedict, and full English breakfasts. Be sure to try their famous bacon and maple syrup pancakes.
Next Up – Sightseeing
Head to the Tower Bridge and take a stroll along the Thames to soak in the breathtaking views of the city. You can also visit the Tower of London, the oldest palace, fortress and prison in Europe, to learn about the city’s fascinating history.
Afterwards, hop on the tube and head to the British Museum, home to a vast collection of art and artifacts from all around the world. Be sure to check out the Rosetta Stone, one of the most famous artifacts on display.
Lunch Time – Foodie Heaven
For lunch, make your way to Borough Market, one of London’s most famous food markets. From fresh seafood to artisanal cheese, you’ll find a wide variety of delicious food to try. Don’t forget to grab a cup of coffee at Monmouth Coffee, one of the best coffee shops in London.
Afternoon Fun – Culture and Shopping
No trip to London is complete without visiting one of the city’s world-renowned museums. Head to the National Gallery or the Tate Modern to admire some of the finest works of art in the world.
Once you’re done with culture, hit the shops on Oxford Street, Europe’s busiest shopping street, for some retail therapy. Be sure to check out Selfridges, one of London’s most famous department stores.
Dinner Time – Experience the Best of London’s Food Scene
For dinner, try out Dishoom, a Bombay-style restaurant that’s a must-visit for foodies. The menu features classic Indian dishes like biryani, butter chicken, and paneer tikka, all served in a stylish setting.
After dinner, head to the famous Cavern Club in Soho, where the Beatles played some of their earliest gigs. You can also take a Beatles-themed walking tour to learn more about the band’s history in the city.
Finally, End Your Day with a Drink
End your day with a drink at the Sky Garden, located in the heart of the city. This rooftop bar offers stunning panoramic views of London’s skyline and is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a busy day of sightseeing.
London is an incredible city with so much to see and do, even if you’re just a London tourist for the day. Follow this guide and you’re sure to have an unforgettable 24 hours in the city.
