5 Easy Things To Bake
Simple Cakes
There are lots of different kinds of cakes out there for you to try out! Most cakes only require a few simple ingredients – flour, eggs, butter (or another kind of fat), sugar, a little salt, water or milk, and a leavening agent of your choice (such as baking soda).
With these ingredients, you can actually make most things! To make a simple cake, you will usually cream the butter and the sugar together, then add the eggs one by one until they combine nicely. From there, you can alternate between adding the additional wet and dry ingredients into a bowl until everything has been added and is thoroughly mixed.
Of course, depending on the type of cake you want to make, you will need to add additional ingredients like vanilla extract or cocoa powder. However, don’t limit yourself to that! There are so many flavor profiles to try out, so don’t forget to experiment with them all and have fun.
Cookies
There are lots of similarities between baking cakes and cookies, and they are just as easy. Cookies will use most of the same ingredients, but the texture will come out different. Things like almond cookies are among the easiest things to bake in the world, and hardly take any effort at all. However, if you want something more fun, don’t let chocolate chip cookies scare you off, either.
They are incredibly easy to make, and will use ingredients like brown sugar, a chocolate of your choice, butter, golden caster sugar, baking soda, and plain flour. Like with cakes, the creaming method is used, where the butter and sugar get beaten together. This makes the ingredients combine perfectly, and everything gets mixed together as you slowly add all the other ingredients.
Brownies
Brownies do not use the creaming method in the preparation. Instead, the butter and chocolate get melted together, then the sugar is added and mixed in. Next, you will add your vanilla in eggs, then stir in the flour.
You can mix in anything else you would like when everything is stirred together – this can be nuts, or even fruit! Just make sure you don’t offset the liquid balance too much, or the mixture won’t bake properly.
Muffins
You won’t use the creaming method for muffins, either. For these, you will just whisk or sift all the dry ingredients together, and mix the wet ingredients in a separate bowl. When both are thoroughly mixed, you can combine them and mix them until it is homogenous.
At this point, you can add in whatever additions you prefer, like berries! Scoop out the mixture into muffin trays, and bake immediately. You really can’t get any easier than this, and you will find that many of the ingredients are the same as the ones used in making cakes.
Cupcakes
Since cupcakes are essentially small cakes, you will be using the creaming method for these. You know the drill – cream the butter and sugar, slowly add the eggs, then alternate between the wet and dry ingredients.
The fun thing with cupcakes is that when they are done backing and cooling, you can have a lot of fun decorating them individually. You can use wherever frosting you prefer, but buttercream will always be a great choice. Don’t forget to use things like sprinkles and anything else you would like.
Because of the nature of cupcakes, these are great to make with family or friends. Everyone can help out and have a good time while learning about baking! It’s something that everyone should know the basics of, so get people to join in.
Summary
Many things in the baking girls are super easy to make. Cakes, cookies, brownies, muffins, and cupcakes are just some of the easiest ones to try out. Of course, they can become more difficult if you want to try more complex recipes, but at baseline, they are super easy.
Avoid going down the pastry route for now if you aren’t used to baking. These can be incredibly difficult to work with, and will take time to master. So, for the time being, just enjoy the easier things in life!
