The Best New Years Resolutions For A More Hopeful Future

At the start of a fresh new year, many of us are still thinking about the ways in which we can improve our lives over the next twelve months and beyond. Many people set themselves New Year’s Resolutions to start the year off with good intentions.

Typically, most resolutions don’t last too long when the only motivation is another day starting. Our minds and bodies have a rough time keeping up with each other, usually making it difficult to stick with what we were so keen to change in our lives. It is highly recommended if you are looking to stick to your resolutions that you keep yourself accountable, you can do this by using affirmations or keeping a journal.

Did last year change your Resolution setting?

The challenges that last year brought to us mean that we may have an easier time sticking to our goals in this new year. During the previous year, we have all learnt a thing or two. We have all changed and grown as we have been stretched in ways we couldn’t even begin to imagine.

So will this mean that our resolution setting cycle will finally mean we make changes that last a lifetime?

Here are a couple of ways in which you can help yourself stick to the resolutions process.

Listen to what your body is telling you

A typical health goal comes following a time of overindulging and becoming a little lazy over the holidays. They are usually tied to metrics and numbers that define our success- such as a personal best during a run, a number on the scale, or a clothing size. As good a measure as these may give us over time, they are not the only way to determine how successful you have been in your pursuit for betterness.

Instead, think about how you feel. If you would usually create resolutions around better at-home skincare, you buy a whole load of new products which end up forgotten about. Save up that money to get a professional hyperpigmentation treatment that will make you feel like a celebrity. This feeling will motivate you to want to take better care of your skin.

Resolve to check in with your body every day to see how it’s feeling. Ignore scales or outdated food rules that are designed to make you feel less. Focus on nutrition over restriction.

Accept that things change

Last year taught us that nothing in life is guaranteed. Nothing. The way we work, hang out with friends and family, work out, shop– has all changed dramatically and the world looks completely different to how it did just one year ago. Holidays were celebrated differently and we all had to adjust to what has now become ‘the new normal’. Even our health is not guaranteed.

So rather than making a resolution around what you want to change, focus on areas that celebrate your ability and strength when it comes to being able to change. Things change, and those changes are completely necessary.

Examples of these types of resolutions could be: I will look out for the constants in life and celebrate them. I believe and trust that everything will be OK and work out in the end.

Make this year your best year ever by running with the lessons that we were taught last year.
