If you’re anywhere in the country chances are you’re not too far away from a Village Hotel. Usually found on business parks these 3 star hotels are often more than just a place to rest your head. They also allow pets, so you can bring your Chihuahua as long as they have their own designated Chihuahua crate. I have a gym membership at my local village and in fact, it’s the best gym I’ve ever been to. Additionally, I also hosted my 21st birthday party at the same Village Hotel many moons ago.

I recently stayed at the Village Hotel in the Wirral and headed to one of their tribute evenings. Admittedly I’ve seen these events advertised at the Newcastle hotel and always said in passing I thought they’d be great. For the tribute evening, we were going to get fully submersed in 90’s music. As a child of the 90s, I literally couldn’t be more excited about the entire thing! I knew I was going to feel totally nostalgic.

We arrived at the three-star hotel on a Friday afternoon, which is located about 20 minutes drive from Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet. A great place if you’re into Luxury brands, boasting over 145 cut-price stores including Ralph Lauren, Mulberry, Burberry, Barbour, Phase Eight, Paul Smith and a whole host more.

The historic town of Chester is also only a 20-minute drive away and is worth visiting if you have an interest in period architecture.

The reception and check in at the Village Hotel, Wirral was seamless and easy. With a do it yourself check-in, which I really enjoy (because I’m fiercely independent right?) you simply add your email address used to book with and the details appear. There’s a member of the Village team on hand to help you out though and direct you to your room. We were residing in a Club room for the evening.

The room was exceptionally clean, it was spacious and bright. I think that this makes a hotel room all that little bit better when the room is light and airy.

Fitness & Spa Facilities

Whilst staying at the hotel you can use their health and wellness facilities. As a gym membership holder of the Village Newcastle, I absolutely love their Virtual Spinning Classes and the gym equipment is fantastic. All of the machines work with the MyWellness app so you can track your activity whilst working out. You’re also able to build fitness programmes within your profile so that you’re more focused on working towards your goals.

The gym at the Village, Wirral location was small, yet again full of the most popular equipment. From free weights to bikes, rowing machines to kettlebells the facilities are great.

The swimming pool, however, really let the wellness centre down. The pool was dimly lit and evidently, there’s work going on in the area as a large section was cordoned off. The Jacuzzi was lacking and bubbles and additionally the sauna was out of order. I’m unsure if the swimming area and spa are about to undergo renovations or not but on my visit I found this area to be extremely underwhelming and extremely miserable looking. It was also half-term and there was a children’s swimming lesson on too which detracted from the relaxation.

Dining at The Village

Within the hotel there’s also a sports bar which serves a full bar, has huge screens for watching big sporting events such as the current World Cup. The bars of Village hotels are always bustling with a great atmosphere. They also serve up some pub grub which includes food such as your typical burgers and fries and flatbread pizzas.

On-site there’s also a Buca di Beppo. The globally known Italian restaurant serves hearty traditional style food in the rustic Italian setting. It also doubles up as the breakfast area in the morning.

The breakfasts at the hotel are really great and serve up something for everybody. With a cooked breakfast buffet selection which offers your typical fry-up items, eggs, sausage, bacon, beans and mushrooms as well as a continental breakfast including meats and cheeses. A selection of pastries and yoghurt, granola and clean eating options.

90’s Night

With a packed programme of tribute evenings up and down the collection of hotels, there’s a diverse mix of music for everybody. Tickets start from £24 for events and include your evening’s entertainment and a three-course meal.

We arrived to a great welcome from the fabulous staff, who were welcoming whilst extremely competent in their roles for the evening which helped the event run smoothly. The DJ for the evening, dressed in a curly wig and 90s shell suit was playing some easy going 90s tunes as everybody arrived to their tables. Decorated with balloons. We were really fortunate that the evening was packed out with 2 hen parties, an 18th birthday party and a large group of NHS workers on a work night out.

Food, dancing & fizz

The first courses were served; a carrot soup which was relatively tasty and was accompanied by a crusty bun. This was then followed by a chicken dinner which was absolutely delicious.

As the main courses were cleared away DJ Andy headed around the tables to ask for playlist recommendations; with Boyzone, The Spice Girls, Vengaboys and B*Witched all making an appearance alongside some golden classics like A1’s Take on Me, Ginuwine’s Pony and of course Barbie Girl by Aqua.

The final course of cheesecake was served up and with eyes bigger than my belly I couldn’t quite finish it. The food was actually really good and on mass was well served.

As the drinks were flowing and the meal over, the music became louder and the dance floor became full. With people spilling off the dance floor to throw some serious moves out to the music of the nineties. With Oasis belting out everybody from their different groups were intermingled dancing together and it really was just one great huge party. The DJ was absolutely phenomenal and really had everybody up dancing with his selection of songs playing until 1 am.

Village Hotel, Wirral. Thoughts?

I do rate the Village hotels as somewhere with consistency and great staff. Their rooms are nice and plush to relax in without a massively hefty price tag. The evening was fantastic and I do recommend a stay and a night at one of their tribute evenings.
