Just about everyone has visited at least some of America’s national and state parks. But if you’re looking for local charms and scenery, you’ll want to head to some of the country’s top city parks. 

According to The Trust for Public Land, millions of people in urban areas head to these green spaces for a taste of the local culture. These, in particular, are especially worth visiting. 

Forsyth Park, Savannah, Georgia

Forsyth Park is a local’s favourite and one of the top city parks in Georgia. It covers more than 30 acres of land and frequently hosts a variety of events. There are lots of concerts held here. And an outstanding farmer’s market every Saturday too. It came to life back in 1858. Which means you’ll also find plenty of historical details along with the gorgeous greenery Savannah is famous for.

Central Park, New York City, New York

Central Park is the most well-known park in the country. With many coming to visit every year as one of New York City’s top attractions. It covers 843 acres and includes the Central Park Zoo, a carousel, Victorian Gardens and much more. On any given day there are talented buskers performing and plenty of great people-watching too. The park has also been spotlighted in many movies and TV shows. And, it’s all right in the middle of Manhattan. City Park, New Orleans, Louisiana

City Park in New Orleans is spread out over an impressive 1,300 acres of land and is one of the country’s oldest urban parks. Visitors come from near and far to get a glimpse at the famous oak trees dotted throughout. There are walking and path paths, and lots of attractions. Including an amusement park and multiple gardens: Carousel Gardens, Besthoff Sculpture Garden and Botanical Garden.

Hermann Park, Houston, Texas

One of the residents’ favourite hangout spots, Hermann Park offers a wide range of recreational opportunities from biking to picnicking. It’s the eighth-most visited in the country. It also hosts the Houston Zoo and an immaculate golf course, attracting five million visitors each year. 

Griffith Park, Los Angeles, California

Griffith Park is one of the country’s largest urban parks and most notably California’s second-biggest, covering more than 4,310 acres of land. Movie fans might recognize its scenery and landmarks as the park that’s been used as a filming site for multiple films. It’s also a great place to go for a view of the famous Hollywood sign. You can also take advantage of walking trails, horse riding paths, visit the Los Angeles Zoo, Bronson Canyon and the Greek Theatre.

National Mall and Memorial Park, Washington D.C.

The National Mall and Memorial Park is America’s second most visited park. Millions of visitors flock to this 1,000-acre park to see national monuments like the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial and Washington Monument. So there are also lots of opportunities for recreational activities as well.

Mission Bay Park, San Diego, California

Located in San Diego, this park hosts over 17 million people each year, who come from around the world to take advantage of its 27 miles of sandy beaches. There are even islands inside for participating in all sorts of activities like boating, swimming, windsurfing, biking and more.
