If hardcore partying in Ibiza or day drinking at a beach club in Marbella isn’t your thing. Perhaps you’re looking to get away with the family, or a loved one or celebrating with a little peace and tranquillity? Then Lanzarote Retreats is the perfect destination all year round.

Lanzarote is one of the 7 main Canary Islands and benefits from all year round great weather. Making it an ideal destination for a bit of Winter sun too. About an hours flight from Tenerife, Lanzarote is a great island to explore.

We made the most of the cheap flights to Lanzarote and spent a long-weekend discovering what the island had to offer.

Staying at Lanzarote Retreat’s eco-resort, off the beaten track. In the rural village of Arrieta in one of the eco Yurts belonging to family run business, Lanzarote Retreats. Headed by husband and wife duo Tila and Michelle alongside their son Josh and their workforce of 22 staff. Who oversee 16 eco homes and 18 villas and apartments. The retreat is split into 3 sections Palacio, which is the mansion and estate, the villas and apartments and their crown jewel, the Eco Finca de Arrieta.

Airport transfers & car hire

Located in the North of the Island, a short 25-minute drive from the airport the retreat is home to the eco yurts, eco cottages, eco farmhouse and eco villas. When booking a stay at any of the Lanzarote Retreats luxury eco-resort airport transfers are included both ways. As well as an eco car hire from their fleet of Prius’. These two included extras make for a more relaxing arrival and departure and the use of the car allows you to head out and explore the beautiful island. Especially as the rural location means that there’s no local town to walk to. And the nearest village has a handful of very small, local restaurants.

If you’re looking for recommendations for any day excursions then do ask whoever picks you up from the airport. As with a wealth of island knowledge, they also have great connections so can suggest the best boat trips, days out and more.

Each of the self-contained properties has excellent facilities for cooking including a kitchen and a BBQ area. As well as this Lanzarote Retreats have a nightly option to have food delivered. They also frequently have events on next to their gorgeous communal pool and relaxation area. Such as Paella night and wine tasting events. Proudly they also encourage you to make use of their honesty shop for any food and holiday essentials you may require.

Spanish Glamping

The yurt itself, which we stayed in was the ‘Eco Yurt’ property. The luxury glamping feel was a welcome break from traditional Spanish hotels and apartments we were used to.

The gated area boasted a relaxation area with sun loungers. A BBQ and an outdoor dining table whilst featuring a kitchen with all the basic amenities complete with a breakfast bar.

The bathroom was a basic wetroom with toilet and hand basin. With volcanic stonemasonry adding a more luxe feel to showering with nature. Of course, it was enclosed, with a stable-barn door and a bucket to collect your fallen shower water. To then water the plans and cacti in your property’s garden. Every element has thought with eco-value in mind. All of the bins are recyclable bins too.

Eco Yurt

The yurt itself was extremely spacious and welcoming. With a cosy feel to it, we were welcomed with a bottle of cava as we unpacked our cases into the wardrobe, fashioned from half a canoe.

The bed is the main feature of the yurt with a draped net and faux fur throw. A bedroom bench at the foot on the bed was complimented by two armchairs and a storage table. With a chest of drawers and an ottoman for storage. The spacious yurt allowed for enough space to comfortably relax. Admittedly we did spend the majority of our time enjoying the outside space of the property. It was even picturesque when the sunset as the twinkling lights wrapped around the yurt almost danced in the moonlight.

The retreat is also home to a coop of chickens, ducks, two donkeys which work for the local farmer and some rabbits. Lanzarote Retreats encourage you to try out the freshly laid eggs from the hens.

Head on inside the coop and grab your own from under the hens. Then head back to see how delicious freshly laid Spanish eggs are for yourself! Perhaps this was one of our favourite morning adventures, collecting our breakfast eggs.

There’s something amazing about this rural realness that you don’t experience in the big towns and hotels. Both of us left our long weekend feeling very relaxed and in a zen-like state from this unparalleled outdoor holiday living.

Family friendly

Lanzarote Retreats also cater really well for young children as they have a small play area with swings and shuggy boats and slides. If you’re a big kid, why not have a game on the full-sized chess board or have a kick about in the sand football pitch. Spend a little time planting a cactus in the cactus garden with your name on to mark that you were here too.

If you’re looking for something off the beaten track. Quiet, eco-friendly and a little bit different from your usual traditional holiday. Then we highly recommend a stay at one of the 34 properties that Tila and Michelle own for a truly memorable getaway. Prices are lowest when booking directly on their site, you can check out the properties and availability now.
