Attend the famous Carnaval de Quebec

It takes place over the period of a couple of weeks from Late January to mid-February. Activities include fireworks, nightlife, snow sculptures, canoe races, and sleigh races. It’s great fun, and there is a 400-pound, seven-foot-tall giant snowman that will welcome you on your way in!

Visit the Basilica de Notre-Dame

You do not need to be religious to appreciate this amazing building. This cathedral has stood in the same spot, right in the middle of Old Quebec, since 1647. You may think it doesn’t look that amazing from the outside, but once you step inside it will take your breath away. The elaborate neo-Baroque design is beautiful, and there are lots or historic religious paintings inside.

Visit the Ice Hotel

If you are planning to visit Canada in the winter, a trip to the Ice Hotel, otherwise known as Hotel du Glace, is a must. It first opened in 2001, and since then it has attracted around 43,000 overnight visitors. You will sleep on an ice bed, and you can enjoy the saunas and spas in the Nordic relaxation area. Of course, this is not a place to stay for your entire trip. However, it is only a half-hour drive from the likes of Quebec City Marriott Downtown, which would enable you to get the best of both worlds. Oh, and if you fancy getting married, you can get married in the ice chapel here! That will be a wedding story to tell the grandkids.

Explore the historic district

One of the main reasons to visit Quebec City is for the historic Old Quebec City is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will get an insight into what it was like to live in a fortified city several centuries ago. You can explore the historic monuments, churches, and historic convents, as well as wandering the cobblestoned street of the Quartier Petit-Champlain. If that wasn’t enough, there are incredible views of the Saint-Lawrence River as the Upper Town is built on a cliff.
