We all have places we dream of visiting. Whether it’s to see the autumn leaves falling in Kyoto in Japan or perhaps walking the Great Wall of China. It may be that you simply want to visit the top of the Empire State Building or perhaps witness elephants being bathed in Nepal. A trek across South America might be on your list.
Everyone’s wishes and dreams are different, and your travel bucket list should be made of destinations that will excite and inspire you. There is beauty in both the magnificent and the simple. But it’s always fun to write a list and see how many you can achieve! As we come to the close of another year. I thought I’d give you some inspiration of three destinations that might not yet be on your radar.
Northern Lights in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden
Why not combine two magnificent adventures in one when you head above the Arctic Circle to Jukkasjärvi? In the winter it gets dark here at around two in the afternoon and the clear skies are filled with a beautiful array of twinkling stars. This destination is also the best place for the Northern Lights alongside Svalbard in Norway.
Not only may you get the opportunity to see this spellbinding natural occurring light show, but you’ll also be able to stay in the village’s majestic Ice Hotel. The hotel is sculpted entirely out of ice. Here you’ll get to spend a night sleeping on a bed of ice. At the Ice Hotel, you can also join a husky sledge ride, go ice fishing and snowmobiling and learn how to lasso a reindeer. Christmas is a magical time to visit, and it offers a truly unique once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Sail The Galapagos
The Galapagos Islands are some of the most beautiful in the world. They are both remote and bewitching, and sailing on a small yacht around the islands is a truly memorable experience. This archipelago in the Pacific Ocean is one of the outstanding natural scenery and wildlife.
In fact, it’s probably one of the most famous wildlife watching travel destinations in the world. Its cerulean bays, lush green forests, and tropical beauty brings much wildlife to the islands. You’ll be able to see penguins and boobies and tortoises and sea lions all in their natural habitat. It’s definitely one for the bucket list.
Swim With Wild Pigs In The Bahamas
Not only are the Bahamas a beautiful destination to visit but how about coming home and telling everyone that you have been swimming with wild pigs. In the turquoise waters on the island of Exumas, you can literally take to the seas and swim with the ever so friendly wild pigs. It is not known how the pigs arrived on the island as it is not their natural habitat. But they love to frolic and play with guests, and it makes for an unforgettable experience.
The place you need to go to do this is Big Major Cay and because it is such a popular adventure there are many boat excursions available to take you there. It’s the ultimate Bahamian experience if you are visiting the islands.
Limón City, Costa Rica
Visit Limón city and enjoy delicious Afro-Caribbean cuisine. Why not dine on a nice plate of rice and beans? From Parque Vargas on the east end of the city, enjoy beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea or its unique architecture.
Puerto Viejo is also a very colourful city, located in the district of Talamanca. It has a great selection of hotels and cuisine. One of the most popular beaches of the Costa Rican Caribbean is the Salsa Brava. This is where people usually go surfing. It also has the added bonus of exotic flora and fauna. Another bucket list destination is the Cahuita National Park, the Talamanca Indigenous Reserve, and the Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge.
