Getting bored with your fitness regime? It isn’t just you. Many people find themselves stuck in a rut when it comes to exercise, and it is one of the most common causes for people falling off the wagon. Let’s face it, the gym can easily become monotonous, as can running the same route near your house every day. Plus, your body can get used to certain exercises after a while, meaning that if you want to shift fat or build muscle, your current routine may not be helping you achieve those goals. Or, even if you are still seeing the benefits of your regime, you may simply be feeling a bit uninspired or bored with it. If this sounds like you, taking on an endurance challenge could be the perfect solution to shaking up your fitness again.

These kinds of challenges are no easy feat and often require months of training as well as a strong mental outlook. But there’s no better feeling than winning those Trophies Plus Medals at the end of the day, knowing that your training has paid off. If you think you’re up for the test, read on to find out which event is right for you.

Tough Mudder

Perhaps the most famous of all endurance challenges, Tough Mudder runs all over the UK at various times every year. The full course is between 10 and 12 miles long, although there is an option to run a half too. Each course comprises of a number of different obstacles that you and your team will need to cross. These can be anything from rope swings to rotating barriers – all whilst battling through a hefty portion of mud, of course! Some obstacles even involve wires that can give participants an electric shock, so you’ll need to be prepared for some pain.

Vertical Rush

If staying dry is more your thing, why not attempt the infamous ‘Vertical Rush’? Head down to London to take part in this challenging cardiovascular event. It takes place near Liverpool Street Station at Tower 42, the city’s original skyscraper. You’ll be required to battle the building’s 932 steps which stretch across 43 floors in a race to the top.

The Great North Swim

You’ve heard of the Great North Run, but have you heard of the Great North Swim? It’s run by the same company and is the biggest open water swimming event in the UK. It all takes place at the beautiful Lake Windermere in (where else?) the Lake District between the 9th to the 11th of June. You can choose between three distances, which are half a mile, one mile or 5K depending on your ability.

Nightrider London

If you’re a lover of life on two wheels, Nightrider London could be the perfect endurance event for you. It’s a 100km circuit around London in the dead of night, which also means you get to see the city from a completely different perspective! It is generally suitable for all abilities, but a little training at least will be required.
