Guest Post: 6 Fall Fashion Trends You Need to Wear

Today’s guest posting is from the fantastic Yulia Ivanova, who is a trends and fashion blogger with a moderately minimalist approach to fashion. Another Paris Fashion Week just came to an end, giving us something bright to look forward to next spring and summer. Meanwhile, we find ourselves in the middle of October; the temperature is slowly going down, so there is no better time to refresh our memory and look at this season’s hottest trends than now.

Designers never cease to surprise us with dreamy and futuristic styles – Fall runways were filled with vinyl leather, extra long sleeves, endless ruffles, and bold shoulders. Even though these pieces are definitely fun to look at as a form of art, let’s face it – most of us wouldn’t bother trying to wear that to the office. Quite a few trends presented, on the other hand, will easily fit it into your everyday lives – let me point them out so that you know what to shop for. Actually, some of these trends are nothing but comebacks from a year or two ago – and what can be better than shopping your own closet?

Leopard Print

Well, I am not even sure if leopard print can be called a trend these days; it seems to be coming back to the runway almost every season. I think animal print has already earned the status of a classic, and can only look wrong or inappropriate if there is too much of it.

Although this season designers emphasized leopard print coats, it would be wiser to find a simple leopard print accessory, such as a bag or scarf, and make it your statement piece – this way you’ll spice up your everyday looks without looking tacky. If you already got something with leopard spots on, it’s a perfect time to take it off the shelf and rock it!

Plaid/Tartan

Plaid print is another fashion comeback that is always welcome. It can easily blend into any wardrobe, and there is no cash involved – I mean how many of us don’t have a plaid scarf? If you are ready to make a bolder choice, think about investing in a plaid or tartan jacket with a menswear-inspired fit; it will make a perfect addition to your weekday looks. My personal favourite is this plaid vest, which I am wearing over a turtleneck jumper in winter.

If you are living down south, it could be a bit harder to pull off this trend, but a plaid bag or a pair of plaid pumps could give your look a trendy and fresh feel.

Puffer CoatsGuest Post: 6 Fall Fashion Trends You Need to Wear 1

This trend is the best because comfort and warmth are finally on the same side as fashion. Although most creators took the practicality out of the equation when presenting sleeveless and off-the-shoulder versions of a puffer, retailers are making up for it by offering us a great selection of functional and cute coats. Well, those of us who live in cold climates don’t need further incentives to embrace the down coat, right? If you’d like to learn more about how to wear it, make sure to check out this article.

Layering

I bet you already caught a few fashion bloggers wearing tees under their spaghetti-strap tops and dresses, so you won’t be surprised to hear that it’s all about layering this season. Obviously,  such an ensemble sounds like a recipe for a catastrophe in winter, but the good news is that this trend has lots of room for variety and can be worn in any season.

Most designers came up with an idea of a turtleneck sweater under a dress or a crop top – basically, just how we could wear it to the office or to a Sunday brunch with friends.

Military Chic

I just love the fact that this season’s collections are full of neutral, easy-to-wear styles, such as military chic. Even though khaki and olive green is nothing new on the runway nor on streets, this season there are absolutely no limits in terms of colour or shape. If you’ve got a nautical military-inspired overcoat, go ahead and wear it; if you have a beautiful khaki green wool sweater or dress – that works, too.

Personally, I invested in an oversized military jacket a couple of years ago, and I couldn’t be happier – it proved itself as a great transitional piece that perfectly matches my off-duty combinations.

Pleated midi skirts were one of the hottest trends this summer, and they are staying for fall and winter. No matter how long their fashion moment lasts, I think most of us wouldn’t mind – they are so versatile and fun to wear. If you wore them with a tucked-in shirt during warmer months, simply add a leather jacket on top to make your outfit fall-appropriate. Another option is to layer a turtleneck sweater under your shirt; this way you’ll rock two trends in one outfit – layering and pleats.

Now that you have an idea how to be trendy this season without taking any unnecessary fashion risks, share your favourite trend in the comments – I’d love to know!
