Quick and Easy Breakfasts For Health Nuts

Breakfast is an important meal- it provides you with the energy you need to get going in the morning, and sets you up for the day. But the thing about breakfast is that most of us don’t have a whole lot of time in the morning to mess around. It needs to be quick, convenient and healthy. Because skipping breakfast is of course not an option when you want to take care of your health! But what do should you go for when it’s a rushed weekday, and you need to get out of the door? Here are a few ideas.


Smoothies can be a bit of a faff when you’re starting from scratch. You have to peel and chop fruit, fiddle around with messy cores and peels and make sure you’re getting the quantities right for the best taste. However, there are ways that you can make life easier for yourself. At the weekend, spend time chopping everything up and dividing it into bags, then pop them in the freezer. Each morning you have your frozen smoothie ingredients ready to go. Throw in some almond milk to get everything going, and you could add a spoonful of yoghurt for protein and added creaminess. Smoothies are a great way to get the good stuff into your diet in a way that’s palatable and easy to consume. They boost your fruit and veg intake and are an excellent choice even for those who can’t stomach food in the mornings. A good smoothie requires a good blender which will ensure there are no lumps. A hybrid blender is one option if you have a smaller kitchen since it performs multiple functions. You can't just use everything if you don’t have space so a multitasking appliance is beneficial.

Homemade Granola Bars

The good thing about homemade granola bars is they’re delicious, portable and can be made in advance. Melt good quality peanut butter with honey or maple syrup, and stir through oats until the mixture holds together. From there you can add any extra flavourings of your choice- dark chocolate chips, coconut flakes, dried fruit, and nuts all work well. Line a tray with cling film and push down the mixture until it’s well compacted before placing in the fridge. Once it’s set, you can pull it out using the cling film and cut into bar sized portions. These can be popped in a Tupperware box or just wrapped with foil or film individually. The perfect sweet yet healthy treat to eat on the go in the morning. 

Omelette Breakfast Bites

Eggs are a great way to start the day, but we don’t all have the time or inclination to slave over a hot stove in the mornings. Again omelette bites can be made ahead of time and eaten on the go so make the perfect grab-and-go breakfast. Chop the ingredients of your choice- it could be cooked mushrooms or onions, diced tomatoes, herbs or spinach leaves and add to beaten eggs. Pour the mixture into a muffin tin and bake in the oven until firm. Again these can be individually wrapped and kept in the fridge during the week, ready for when you need them.
